Europe's Energy Crisis Eiffel Tower Lights Will Be Turned Off Faster

The Eiffel Tower is one of the tourist attractions in Paris, France, which seems to never be empty of tourists. Yes, not only during the day, the tower designed by Gustave Eiffel is actually also beautiful at night, because it is illuminated by lights that light up to the top of the tower.

Unfortunately, tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of the Eiffel Tower will have to return home sooner than usual, after Paris announced to turn off the lights on the tower early.

Reported by NDTV, the Eiffel Tower will be shutting down an hour earlier than usual to save energy this winter.
Local authorities will also lower water temperatures in public swimming pools, as well as delay warming on public buildings.
The water temperature in the pool will be lowered to 25 degrees Celsius, from 26 degrees Celsius. Heating in public buildings will be lowered to 18 degrees Celsius.

The move was taken on the instructions of French President Emmanuel Macron, who called on the industrial, household, and urban sectors to reduce their energy consumption by 19 percent. It was done as a result of cutting gas supplies by Russia, as well as rising electricity prices.

European countries agreed to reduce energy consumption to avoid a more serious impact, namely the possibility of a complete halt.

Although France is not directly affected by the cuts in gas supplies from Russia, compared to its neighboring countries, it is possible that a power outage could occur. Because, a number of nuclear reactors in the country were shut down to reduce energy scarcity.
As a result, France, which was previously an energy-exporting country, now has to import electricity supplies from other countries.

The Eiffel Tower Will Remain Radiant

Although it had to be turned off early, the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, said that the Eiffel Tower would still glow.
"France will always be the City of Light," he said.
Hidalgo said as of September 23, 2022, all lighting in Parisian public buildings will be turned off at 10:00 p.m. local time. Previously, the Eiffel Tower would usually be lit until 01:00 local time. As for, the lights at the top of the tower are on every hour.
If, the blackout of Paris buildings is carried out before 23:45 local time, it is estimated that Paris will save energy by 4 percent. Meanwhile, shutting down the Eiffel Tower early will certainly save even more energy.
